Young environmentalists turned animal detectives for a day, searching for wildlife by following tracks, feathers, chewed nuts and even droppings. The members of the Wimbledon Common Nature Club spent Sunday morning following clues that led them to rabbits, badgers and dormice. They even found evidence of sheep on the common.

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) rescued several protected animals and seized carcasses of wild animals in two separate operations in Johor Baru recently. The department's law enforcement director, Saharudin Anan, said a species of the eagle and an ape -- high on the protected list -- were among the animals rescued. The first operation was conducted at 5pm on Thursday at a wildlife trader's shop after a tip-off.

We also found animal parts such as a pair of horns from a serow (a type of goat), the skull of a sambar deer and the skin of a barking deer -- both of which the trader had hung on his wall as trophies   -Saharudin Anan

MADISON (WKOW) --The Four Lakes Wildlife Center held a special baby shower for baby animals it's cared for since they were orphaned or hurt. They released some animals back to the wild, including owls, ducklings, raptors rabbits, and porcupines. One of the world's fastest skaters, Olympic Gold Medalist Casey FitzRandolph, was also there to help.

Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh on Saturday accused the state governments of deliberately violating the Forest Rights Act by not notifying critical wildlife habitats under it. The Act stipulates that each government notify critical wildlife areas before settling the land rights of tribals. Once notified, ownership of a habitat can't be given to tribals and new projects can't come up in the area.

In Tadoba reserve (Maharashtra), 40 coal and power projects have been sanctioned and only one rejected. Their impact on the rich bio-diversity is showing   -Jairam Ramesh

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will conduct a study to determine if a rare salamander known from only four locations in East Tennessee should be added to the federal endangered species list. The service's decision to review the Berry cave salamander is in response to scientific information contained in a petition that requested the species be protected under the Endangered Species Act. As its next step, the service will conduct a thorough investigation of all the biological information available on
